SLORoots Productions was inspired and fueled by a journey into the purpose of life, which meandered down many roads and brought me to the doorstep of community, music, and events. I experienced the convergence of personal reflection with the energy of an awe-inspiring place, among the picturesque country roads on the way to Huasna townsite: a place where a majestic Valley Oak cascades decisively across the road, framing the horizon behind it gracefully.

Each time I cycled past the tree during training rides, I’d revel in its majestic beauty and splendor. It was not until a few years later that I invited the power of the tree’s symbolism within, and started to discover it’s many connective layers to my life and our beautiful community.

After choosing our Huasna’s Valley Oak tree to be the underpinning of SLORoots Productions, reading the following added fervor to all aspects of the philosophy behind this company: strength within ourselves translates into powerful collaboration with others.

“Imagine a tree. Let’s suppose this tree represents the tree of life. On this tree there are fruits. In life, our fruits are called our results. So we look at the fruits (our results) and we don’t like them; there aren’t enough of them, they’re too small, or they don’t taste good.

So what do we tend to do? Most of us put even more attention and focus on the fruits, our results. But what is it that actually creates those particular fruits? It’s the seeds and the roots that create those fruits.

It’s what’s under the ground that creates what’s above the ground. It’s what‘s invisible that creates what’s visible. So what does that mean? It means that if you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots. If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible.”

…As humans, we are a part of nature, not above it. Consequently, when we align with the laws of nature and work on our roots—our “inner” world—our life flows smoothly. When we don’t, life gets rough.

In every forest, on every farm, in every orchard on earth, it’s what’s under the ground that creates what’s above the ground. That’s why placing your attention on the fruits that you have already grown is futile. You cannot change the fruits that are already hanging on the tree. You can, however, change tomorrow’s fruits. But to do so, you will have to dig below the ground and strengthen the roots.”

The Metaphor behind the SLORoots Identity… “The Roots Create the Fruits”

Strengthening our roots.
Roots tell a story of where the tree’s been: how well it has been fed, how deeply it is embedded in its place. The roots keep it grounded and give it stability. SLORoots Productions is committed to creating a solid community ties. We produce quality community events, whether they are focused on athletics, advocacy, music, or beyond. We hope that through providing a place for people to mix, create, share and celebrate, the powerful and progressive ideas of our time will be amplified.

Tapping into quality.
The word SLORoots signifies the style in which this company chooses to do business. It suggests a peaceful, patient and thoughtful pathway to growth and prosperity. Nothing great is built overnight, nor without great challenge and some amount of discomfort, just as no tree grows without enduring the web and tide of nature: the roots slowly but tenaciously take their place in the thick layers of earth! SLORoots Productions celebrates the grandiose tree! as it powerfully taps its roots into the ground with care and consciousness, knowing that it will be continually interacting with its environment.

Making connection with ourselves.
“Without the body as a unifying figure of existence, we become fragmented.  We repress our aliveness and become machine-like, easily manipulated.  We lose our testing ground for truth,” states speaker/author Anodea Judith. This statement frames SLORoots Production’s action for provide venues for transformational progress as pertaining to the mind and body connection.
Judith goes on to say, “Only by recovering the body can we begin to heal the world itself, for as mind is to body, so culture is to planet.  Healing the split between mind and body is a necessary step in the healing of us all.  It heals our home, our foundation, and the base upon which all else is built."

The above quote guides us further into the layers of meaning, as SLORoots identifies with social consciousness. It believes that each person should understand and embrace their roots, ethnic background, culture and family. It believes in dedication to diversity; with it we can reinforce our strength and wisdom as a culture. Without it, we become bland and stifled.

Realizing our gifts, and sharing them.
We believe in compassion and goodwill. Each of us has a gift to share with the world, something we can give to others, and it is through this individual giving that our communities thrive and initiate change.

Living as part of the Whole.
Finally, SLORoots believes in the celebration of the balance between man and Earth. We are only one part of a grand system, that when in equilibrium, maintains its vibrancy. This means we must pay attention to and implement practices of sustainability, conservation and resourcefulness. For thousands of years, cultures were capable of maintaining a balance between itself and the ecosystem because they paid attention. SLORoots supports local organizations that embody these values.
